What is Mala?
Mala beads are more than an accessory.
Mala beads are an ancient tool that was developed to keep the mind focused on the practice of meditation. Mala's originate from Buddhism and Hinduism, but you do not to have to be religious or spiritual to wear mala beads. A mala can simply be used as a reminder of your intentions. Typically, the mala a person needs will find them.
A mala consists of 108 natural gemstones, hand knotted after each bead, charged with a mantra, one guru bead and tassel. A mala is a gift that keeps on giving because of the energetic gemstone properties and the love and intention that is put into the construction of each necklace.
Mala's also provide balance for the chakras. Chakras are the energy points and centers of spiritual power in the human body, there are seven of them.
How To Use Mala Beads?
Mala beads can be used in a variety of ways to help you manifest and remind you of what you are seeking in life.
The first step is to set an intention or mantra for your mala. A mantra is a word, sound, or phrase repeated to aid in your concentration while meditating.
MEDITATION: Once you have given your mala an intention you can use it to enhance your meditation practice and keep the mind focused. In your right hand, place the mala between your thumb and fore finger, starting just after the Guru bead and move from one bead to the next reciting your intention. Once you have completed the circle and have reached the Guru bead, you may recite a special closing and then continue along as is, switching hands or turning the mala. You can also wear your mala during mediation
YOGA PRACTICE : You can bring your mala to the mat as a way bring awareness and focus to your intentions and to infuse your mala beads with the energy of your practice. It is recommended to place your mala along the top parallel to your mat or placed in the top right corner off your mat.
EVERYDAY USAGE: Simply wearing or displaying your mala somewhere special can enhance your everyday life. Every mala is constructed with intention, love and different gemstones. Use it as a reminder and friend along your journey!
Why 108 Beads?
108 beads on a mala necklace is sacred for a number of reasons.
MOON: The average distance of the Moon from the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Moon.
1, 0, AND 8: Some say that 1 stands for God or higher Truth, 0 stands for emptiness or completeness in spiritual practice, and 8 stands for infinity or eternity.
HEART CHAKRA: Chakras are the intersections of energy lines in the body, and there are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form the heart chakra. One of them, leads to the crown chakra, and is said to be the path to self-realization.
DESIRES: There are said to 108 earthly desires
TIME: Some say there are 108 feelings, 36 related to the past, 36 related to the present, and the 36 related to the future.
PLANETS AND HOUSES: In astrology, there are 12 houses and 9 planets. 12 times 9 equals 108.
SUN AND EARTH: The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth. The distance from the Sun to the Earth is 108 times the diameter of the Sun
How to choose Mala Beads?

INTUTION: Allow yourself to be drawn to the mala that catches your eye. The mala that finds you is typically is reflective of what you need.
INTENTION: Every mala carries its own intention. So while searching for the perfect mala beads ask yourself; what you are seeking? What do you want to create in your life? What are you working on? What do you truly desire? What are you struggling with? Each gemstone carries a different intention and healing power.
CHAKRAS: Each gemstone correlates to one of the seven Chakras in the body. Chakras are the energy points and centers of spiritual power in the human body. There are seven of them; Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Heart, Throat, Third Eye and Crown. If there is a certain Chakra you are trying to energize or focus on, take that in to consideration while choosing for your mala beads.
SUNSHINE + MOONLIGHT: Periodically leave your mala beads in direct sunshine or moonlight to energize and cleanse any stagnant energy.
SAGE OR PALO SANTO: Burn a white sage or palo santo stick near your mala so that the beads and stones absorb the smoke.
SOUND VIBRATIONS: Chant a mantra near your mala or use a device such as Tibetan singing bowl or tingsha bells to create a purifying sound vibration.
